Program configuration for MacSOUP 2.4

Note: The following instructions are base on screenshots of the German version.

Make the following adjustments to use our news server:

Start MacSOUP. If you have already configured MacSOUP for another news server, close your current session by clicking the Ablage menu, then Schließen.

In either way, click Neue Einstellungsdatei in the Ablage menu next. The program requires that the new settings are saved using an arbitrary name. We will use musterfrau.

Select Internet Config öffnen from the Ablage menu. Type your first and last name in the Name box and your correct e-mail address in the E-Mail Adresse box. Any existing configuration can be saved by clicking Duplizieren.

Select the News dialog page and enter the news server name News.Individual.NET at News (NNTP) Server. Select the Registrierter Benutzer button and enter your username in the Name box and your password in Kennwort box. Close the dialog window and confirm your settings by clicking Sichern.

Storing your account password in the news reader's configuration is a potential security risk. If you're unsure please refer to our FAQ at http://news.individual.net/faq.html#1.6.

From the Spezial menu select Verbindung zum Server. Check Liste aller Gruppen holen and click Start. MacSOUP starts to fetch the list of all groups.

Select the group you wish to read by clicking its name from the list. Alternatively click Spezial in the menu, then Neue Newsgruppe... and enter the name in the Gruppe field.

Set the properties of the group you wish to read. We recommend to fetch the headers only, select Nur neue Header holen. All other settings can be left on their default in general. Confirm your settings by clicking OK.

Now the group appears in the settings window.

Again, select Spezial from the menu, then Verbindung zum Server. This time check News holen (neue Artikel oder Header). You might want to check Nach neuen Gruppen fragen. Click Start and MacSOUP starts to fetch the list of groups.

We recommend to fetch only the newest 200 articles as suggested.

You can see the header lines of downloaded articles by double-clicking the name of the newsgroup in the configuration window (main window). Based on this data you should decide which threads should fetched completely. Select the threads or articles you are interested in by checking the first column. A checkmark will appear.

Again, select Verbindung zum Server in the Spezial menu. In the Verbindung zum Server dialog window at least Markierte Header holen should be checked now. Other boxes might be checked if required. Click Start.

Now the selected threads and articles are retrieved.

You can read a retrieved article by double-clicking it in the message overview.

Click Beenden in the menu Ablage to exit the program.

If you are using this program on a computer that is not protected against unauthorized access you should erase the password before you exit. Else other people might post articles using your details.
